Winter Warm Meals: More Than Just Food
Over the past five months, our Connect sessions at Hamp and Parkway have been filled with the smell of home-cooked food, the sound of laughter, and the warmth of people coming together.
Through our Winter Warm Meals project, we have served over 800 hot meals to members of our local community.
But this has never just been about food.
For many, these sessions became a place to connect — somewhere to sit, chat, feel welcomed and supported. We’ve seen new friendships form, confidence grow, and people return week after week not just for a meal, but for the sense of belonging that comes with it.
Throughout the winter months, we shared so many moments together — laughter over lunch, conversations over a cup of tea, and at times, quiet support when things felt a little harder. These are the moments that truly define what community means.
At the heart of it all has been our incredible team of volunteers — Donna, Liz, Annaliese and Sherrie. Their dedication, kindness and hard work have made these sessions what they are. From cooking and serving to clearing up, sharing recipes and creating a welcoming space, they have given so much to this project.
We are so grateful to each of them.
As we move into spring, the Winter Warm Meals project comes to an end but the connections built, the friendships formed, and the sense of community created will continue.
This is what happens when people come together.
This project was made possible thanks to funding from the National Grid Community Fund, helping us provide free, warm meals during a time when many people needed them most.
